LET'S CHEER ARTISTS
A-7
Ministers, entrepreneurs and educated musicians, having studied a variety of musical genres, the brothers (Arcelious, Alonzo, Alexander, Andronicus, Antipas and Antonio) integrate ministry, and various musical styles, including jazz, legendary Motown R&B, classical, blues, rock, hip-hop, gospel and other ethnic sounds, to produce a unique image and an urban soul-stirring flavor in the music that captures audiences from the cradle to the elderly. A7 has coined their own musical genre -- inspirational urban soul.
The group is called “A7” because all of the members’ names begin with the letter “A”. There are “6” brothers. The “7” acknowledges the presence of God.
Arcelious is a highly talented, stick-flipping drummer who began his musical journey at the tender age of seven and has captured thousands with his electrifying presence on stage with his brothers.
The group’s electric guitarist and bassist is Andronicus “Duke” Harris. With skillful ingenuity, Andronicus adds distinct flavor to the group’s production.
Adding to this multi-talented crew is Antipas Harris. Antipas is a keyboardist, songwriter, and co-producer. As a child prodigy, he began playing the piano by ear as a toddler (two years old).
As a graduate of LaGrange College (listed within Georgia’s top ten four-year liberal arts colleges) in Creative Music Technology and having recently completed a master’s degree program, Alonzo keeps busy. Alonzo is a prolific drummer, organist and pianist.
The driving force of A7 is, no doubt, the lead singer Alexander “Lx” Harris. This young man possesses a rich golden voice that stirs the souls of all those who hear him sing.
Completing the smooth sounds of A7 is Antonio “T” Owens. Antonio’s strong tenor voice, along with his irresistible melodies and unbelievable hooks, add rich fl avor to A7’s four-part harmonies and already unique sound.
ERIC BRUMLEY
This album tells the story of a prodigal son coming home. It is a story of hope and promise that people can receive and hold on to, making it their own. “It is not mine to keep, I am just the messenger.” He tends to write about his feelings or a particular situation. People who are hurting and lost inspire him to help give them an answer, through song, instead of more questions. He says he leaves them with an answer that will truly change things and that answer is Jesus Christ.
The song entitled ‘Break Down the Wall’ came about from three different sections of his life. Its creation spanned more than two years and brought forth with it a message of hope and redemption. It was the desire to be heard that began Eric Brumley’s songwriting career at the age of 12. For him it was an outlet. It was an outward expression of an inward desire.
His greatest musical and life influence is his mother. She gave him the opportunity to except Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at 5 years of age. One of his first songs was written with her. She would play the guitar while encouraging him to write his lyrics. He says, “If it wasn’t for the song of her life, music wouldn’t have been passed on to me.” Also, his father would take him out in the ’62 Chevy while they listened to music from the fifties and sixties. Between his mom’s musical ability and his dad’s love of radio music, it was a package deal.
JUDGE MILTON WRIGHT,
Judge Milton L. Wright gives music the credit for his survival. Directed by their mother ‘The Echoes of Joy’ consistently found themselves attending and singing for churches in the area, where after the service a collection would be taken up for them.
A few singers that inspire Judge Wright are Shirley Cesar, Mavis and the Staple Singers, Caravan and the Five Blind Boys from Alabama, whose guitarist would come to the house and give them guitar lessons.
Though Gospel and Rhythm & Blues are close to his heart he was encouraged by his sixth grade teacher to play the piano and sing. He joined a boy’s choir and sang soprano, giving him his first taste of classical music which is found in his repertoire. He has played and performed everything from Gospel to R&B and Jazz to Classical and is considered a European Star.
His second passion, The Law, has also brought about inspiration for his song writing. From college to law school, then practicing as an attorney, and now seated as a Judge, his song writing has become an inspiration even to himself. It all comes together as one.
His songwriting, at its conception, is whole. The words and the tune are there the first time he puts it down on paper. From there, he works on it and shapes it a little, but the original concept and idea are never changed, just enhanced.
On his album, ‘Judgment Day’, there is a song called "His Eyes are Wide". It doesn't have the same R&B feel as the others. It almost sounds more like a folk song. In it, he is singing about his notion of Jesus. He says, “There is a superior being that, even after death, is alive and sees all.” This song helps to usher in the desire to look at ones self. When we look for the good inside of us we will find it. Judge Wright believes his music opens the door for hope in a spiritual thing that we can not define which helps us overcome the greatest odds. "It spring from love." he says. "You can't have it if you don't have love. It is all about love."
For the past 20 years Judge Wright has been a part of a play called 'The Black Nativity', composed by Langston Hughes.
It opens the 1st week in December and runs for 12 nights at the Tremont Temple in Boston. He is the narrator and lead soloist. Since the passing of the last musical director, he has also acted as interim musical director for the cast of 60 adults in the play. There are also 80 children, and the changes and obstacles they overcome between October when they begin rehearsals and the opening night, is a miracle in itself. It is a testament of his beliefs that it is love, faith, courage and determination that will help you be victorious in this life.
